If no one is dancing, that is not panic, it is information: the track was wrong, the moment too early, or the room simply still wants to eat and talk. So I ease back, give it space, then bring the energy home with a song I know will land. I treat individual requests with care: one good request is worth gold, but if I give in to every wish on the spot, the arc of the night falls apart within a few songs, so I agree the important ones in advance and place them where they actually work. I do not resent the guest who has had one too many, I manage it: some are settled by a well-timed classic, and some simply have no business near the microphone. And I keep reading the dynamics of the groups: where the core is that pulls the others in, when the grandparents tire, when the young ones come back. A good party is not one big crowd but several small circles that I gradually bring together into a single dance floor.
